SyCom Technologies was launched on April 1, 1996. Its business plan focused on forming a company to offer world-class IT support and service. The five founding directors wanted to create a company built on a solid work ethic, integrity and customer focus. Nearly twenty years later, SyCom is one of the largest providers of IT solutions in the mid-Atlantic area, serving more than 800 companies across a spectrum of industries.
SyCom’s executive team includes long-time leaders from the technology industry. Each focuses on managing a specific aspect of the business and, with the leadership of Tom Cricchi (CEO), are responsible for day-to-day operations, sales, technology and support services.
Thomas J. Cricchi
President and Chief Executive Officer
In January 2007, Tom became President and CEO of SyCom Technologies. Tom leads the Company using the Balanced Scorecard methodology, which ensures alignment of business activities to the vision and strategy of the organization. His hands-on, people-oriented style has helped create a culture based on teamwork, winning and strong relationships with customers and Partners.
Tom previously served as Vice President of Sales at SyCom for five years during which time he was responsible for the training, motivation and management of a 12-person sales team in three locations and driving $30 million in annual sales of IT solutions in Central and Southern Virginia.
Tom joined SyCom in 2001 after six years with Cisco where he was most recently Mid-South Operations Director responsible for over $200 million annual sales of network hardware and software in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia from a sales and technical team of 75 people. Tom’s prior experience with industry-leading companies brought much to the SyCom leadership team and included roles with Oracle as an account manager; Parametric Technology Company as district manager and System Industries as district manager.
Tom is a graduate of the University of Virginia and is active with Junior Achievement and RICHTECH (the regional technology council).
Senior Vice President of Sales and Emerging Markets
Tom Carr is Senior VP of Sales and Emerging Markets. He is focused on solution development and sales for vertical markets, data center solutions, managed services, and customer briefings. Tom has also invested in SyCom and serves as a partner and member of the executive team.
During his 20-year career, Tom’s primary focus has been on vertical markets, including healthcare, assisted living, legal, retail, and public sector. Prior to joining SyCom, Tom held a number of sales and sales management positions at Gambro Healthcare and then spent nine years at Cisco Systems where he was a major account manager of the year and business development manager for the healthcare vertical sector. In 1998, as Cisco’s second healthcare sales manager, he worked solely with hospitals and his efforts have led to several healthcare best practices being published by Cisco.
In 2007, Tom joined Packet360 as director of sales and developed the sales consulting group specializing in vertical markets and advanced technologies. Packet360 was recognized as the 164th fastest growing company in the United States by Inc. magazine during his tenure.
Tom was named James Madison University’s Alumni of the Year in 2003.
Renee L. Symons PMP, MCSE
Vice President – Strategic Operations
With more than 20 years of experience in IT and Project Management, Renee is responsible for operational process and procedures throughout the organization and administration of the primary business backend systems. After starting the Project Management Office (PMO) and managing the Technical Support Center (TSC) at SyCom, she was promoted to Vice President of Strategic Operations. Renee also works with vendors such as Microsoft and Cisco in managing partner programs used to provide customers with benefits and funding Gold partner status offers.
Chief Financial Officer
John Schmohl is the Chief Financial Officer. He is responsible for operations, human resources, finance and accounting. John joined SyCom in November 2014 leading a 12 person team which handles the bulk of the back office operations of the company, including all aspects of cash management, accounting and human resources.
John has over 25 years of experience as a finance professional in a variety of industries, primarily in services, finance and banking. Prior to joining SyCom, John worked for a variety of growth companies, notably Capital One and Lehman Brothers. He started his career as a CPA and Senior Manager of a Big 4 accounting firm. His focus includes developing business specific strategic plans and financial models, leveraging them for growth. He enjoys working with the management team and ownership to evaluate trends and metrics on the operating and financial sides of the business, providing leadership, strong business counsel, driving decision making and delivering solutions.
Chief Technology Officer, Vice President of Engineering and PMO
Twann is an innovative career technologist with over 16 years of experience delivering creative, customer-centric solutions, through value-driven technology partnerships. He is a highly data-driven creationist with expertise in evaluating and delivering applicable technology solution sets that drive business result. His proven leadership skills were developed while leading a sixty-person engineering team who is geared towards transforming the workplace, data center and security domains of a given customer. Twann is committed to enabling team member growth through direct interaction with manufacturer training and market experience.
Chief Information Security Officer/Vice President of Consulting
Allen has over 25 years of experience in the Information Technology field. He has worked in varying capacities (including systems administration, systems engineering, management, and consulting). Allen’s primary focus over the years has been on Information Technology Infrastructure solutions. Allen works with customers in varying capacities, helping to assess, plan, design, deploy and support their IT needs. Most recently, that focus has been on helping customers reduce risks to their environments through assessment methodologies that focus on a top down approach – working with executives and business leaders on policy and procedure, then evaluating the technology in place to support those business initiatives. Allen holds the ISACA CISA certification and the GIAC GSLC certification.
