January 2, 2018
Despite the weather, SyCom kicked off the new year with our annual SyCom Sales and System Engineers Summit. Our 2018 theme was, Horse Racing! Our Sales team, Engineering team, and company executives gathered at the Westin hotel in Richmond for this 2-day event. The purpose of this internal, teambuilding-focused event was to review company activity for 2017 and set initiatives for 2018. Day 1 consisted of opening remarks by CEO Tom Cricchi, VP of Sales Tom Carr and Engineering Director Wayne Luck. Following this, our Chief Information Security Officer Allen Jenkins and Chief Technology Officer Twann Atkins introduced our new content delivery method, a Solution Scenario Approach. Through this approach, SyCom employees from various departments were put into teams prior to this event and were given a business scenario to solve. The teams worked through their scenario and presented their solution at our Summit, detailing which SyCom Solution would best fix the given problem. This approach was a great way for all SyCom members to understand in-depth how different departments work together to deliver business solutions and to learn more about the technologies SyCom has to offer.
After day 1, SyCom Summit attendees proceed to an evening horse racing-themed reception for a night full of wagering and racing courtesy of Group Dynamics Entertainment. SyCom Summit attendees were encouraged to chat with our vendor partner representatives in attendance to earn wagering play money. At the end of the night, each attendee cashed out and winnings were tallied.
These points carried over to day 2, which was full of teambuilding activities planned for us by All About Presentation (AAP). Once again, snow didn’t stop us from having some fun! AAP joined us at the Westin and all SyCom Summit attendees were assigned to teams. Teams then participated in group games, such as The Price Is Right, Crossword, Hangman and Cup Stacking. After the teambuilding activities, some of our leaders gave departmental updates. We heard Strategic Consulting and Security updates from our CISO Allen Jenkins and Security Practice Area Manager Darren Manners. Tom Ball, Director of Project Management Office and Presales, also provided updates from his departments. To conclude, we were joined by our guest motivational speaker, Brian Gunnell, Senior Collaborative Engineer at University of Virginia Health, Karen S. Rheuban Center for Telehealth. Gunnell described, from a customer prospective, what technological transformation looks like and how it plays a role in his industry. Attendees enjoyed hearing how their work is making a difference. Once again, our SyCom Summit was a great way to gear up for the new year.
