Paula Gulak - Vice President / Marketing, Public Relations
Paula was one of the founding partners of SyCom and has been head of Marketing and PR since 1996. As VP of Marketing, Public Relations and Business Development, Paula developed SyCom's branding and provides on-going company positioning and public awareness through the design, development and implementation of marketing and public relations programs that differentiate SyCom from other companies throughout the state. Prior to the formation of SyCom Technologies in April 1996, Paula's fifteen years of technology industry experience included: Director of Marketing/Northeastern US, AmeriData, 1995-1996; Director of Marketing, The Whitlock Group/ValCom, 1989-1995; Marketing Director and Account Manager, Dardick, 1983-1989.
Paula has served on numerous government appointed commissions and regional boards. In1998, she was one of 32 statewide Virginia business leaders appointed to Governor James Gilmore's Commission on Information Technology on which she served for 4 years. In 2001, she was appointed by Governor Mark Warner to the Innovative Technology Authority and Center of Innovative Technology (CIT), and in July 2005, became Chair of the CIT Board of Directors. Paula formerly was Chair of the Virginia Technology Alliance, an organization consisting of the ten technology Councils in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and served as President and Chair of the Greater Richmond Technology Council (GRTC) from 1998-2002. She currently chairs the GRTC's Large-Cap, Mid-Cap CIO and Women In Technology Management Forums. Other involvements over the years include the BBB of Central Virginia, the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce Foundation Board and the Virginia BioTech Park Board of Directors, which was also a gubernatorial appointment. In May of 2003, Paula was awarded the IBM Leadership Award by the Greater Richmond Technology community and the Outstanding Women in Business Award by the Richmond YWCA in 2006.
